In ancient Egypt, scarabs were a symbol of the rising sun, of rejuvenation, and of rebirth. They were used as signets and protective amulets, as found on this handcrafted designer jewelry, sterling silver necklace. Many Egyptians may have owned scarabs, but only the wealthiest could hope to possess a scarab as rare and as fine as the gold original of which this is an accurate replica. The original scarab is one of the very few in gold that have survived into modern times, and is part of the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
